What started as a simple desire to create something special for my beautiful grandpuppy has since turned into a passion to share healthy and tasty treats with people who adore their dogs.
Who is Zelda?

Zelda is my grandpuppy.
She is an Australian Shepherd born in March 2022. She lives in the Netherlands with my daughter and her husband.
Who am I?

I’m DeEtta, a homemaker on a small farm in Monticello, Indiana. I have always loved cooking for my family and friends, and enjoy experimenting with new recipes and growing my own produce in my kitchen garden.
How did we get here?

When Zelda came into my life I wanted to make her some healthy, tasty dog treats. I looked up recipes online, asked other dog owners for ideas, and then created batches of homemade cookies to bring along for visiting my daughter in the Netherlands.
The summer of 2022 I started sharing my cookies with the dogs at a local drive-in movie theater. They enjoyed the cookies, and the dog owners began asking for me and for how to buy more cookies. Over the next year, I continued sharing cookie batches and created new recipes with different flavors. I realized that although Zelda may be over 4,000 miles away, there’s no shortage of local doggy volunteers to try my recipes.
At the end of 2023, I tried selling my cookies at a couple of Christmas markets near me. The response was overwhelmingly positive and convinced me that I needed to take these dog treats seriously. I decided to register my business and name it after my grandpuppy, since she was the reason behind this new adventure. Zelda’s Cookies was born.
What’s in the treats?

It’s important to me that dogs get real food packed with nutrition, and not just flavored food.
The ingredients I use are mostly grown and harvested from my own kitchen garden. For some recipes I use eggs laid by our own farm-raised chickens. I keep my recipes gluten-free by using brown rice and chickpea flour, which I mill myself. I also make my own peanut butter using dry roasted, unsalted peanuts.
